Our Story

We wanted this to be more than just an idea over a coffee.

A sustainable property investment business that took responsibility as a landlord seriously.

That was our vision.

In 2018, Karl and Michael decided to put together a plan for taking investment property seriously. Using Karl’s knowledge of the property market from his successful real estate sales career, purchasing properties where value could be created or existed was one of the two most important tick boxes for this new journey. The next tick they needed, was to ensure financing would not be a problem, and this is where Michael’s years as a mortgage broker came in. Instead of focusing on owning a large number of properties as most investors do, they decided to focus on ensuring they met a calculation that would allow them to avoid being capped by their lenders along the way.

The real change of business came when the decision was made to not just be property investors, but to be a property investment business. This subtle difference allowed Karl and Michael to think about generating revenue through sales, but also to focus on the long term and ensure the rental properties would not be a future liability. Renovate once and maintain is the attitude to each rental property and this is followed by great tenant selection.

By the end of 2019, the Handsome Group had managed to transact 17 properties and were in a position where many more were under offer. Property management was now getting more difficult and the decision to hire a full-time property manager was made. This decision was crucial as it allowed us to better look after our tenants while allowing us to focus on finding more opportunities.

2020 started with one goal, which was to do something that scared us.
What resulted was something that came out of nowhere for everyone and going into the pandemic with a strong cash flow position and a great relationship with our tenants, Handsome Group was able to purchase its first motel with the purpose of converting it into a multiple unit residential rental property.
Seeing our friends and family members in some tough positions during the pandemic spurred another idea for us; Could we create a place where we could give people an above-average return and deliver it safely and consistently for the long term? From this idea K2 Capital Limited was created, allowing Handsome Group to continue to grow whilst allowing investors to achieve a return better than bank deposits or inexperienced property investment might achieve.
Fast forward to the end of 2020 and Handsome group had grown to 2 cities, 50+ Rentals and over 60 property transactions completed since their creation in late 2018.

Being flexible to change, but also consistent in their principles is the core focus for 2021 and the future of Handsome Group. Investment in multiple cities, a continuation of sales, and the growth of K2 Capital are all vital in their business plan. Becoming more public keeps us accountable, we wanted to create a website and brand awareness about what we are doing. This awareness allows us to meet with more people, take responsibility and fix any issues that arise and offer knowledge and opportunity to people that might otherwise not have it.

Karl Grant

Director

With extensive expertise and years of experience in sourcing and selling properties, Karl’s ability to see the potential and add-value opportunities in any property, mixed with his deep understanding of the workings of the market across various sectors makes him vital in his roles of acquisition and sales. This also requires research on top of the knowledge he already has to keep up with the property market and consistently find the best deals.

Karl has a passion for fast cars and outside of working hours he can often be found on a golf course, mountain biking or out finding the best new restaurants to eat at.

Michael Karabassis

Director

Building from his expert knowledge and experience in the finance industry, Michaels's main duties are to arrange finance for our properties and to oversee all operations of the business. This can involve liaising with our lenders and budgeting the costs for our projects, as well as getting onsite to ensure everything is running smoothly. Michael is also involved in our marketing and updates and he loves getting to know all our potential clients.

Outside of working hours, Michael can be found on any Golf course in the area, out exploring, or chatting about property and business with his friends.

Oliver Brierton

Property Manager/Company Administrator

Usually around the office ensuring things run smoothly, Ollie is likely to be your first point of contact. Managing the tenancies in all of our held properties Nationwide and working behind the scenes organizing paperwork, monitoring the emails, and helping with the marketing are his responsibilities.

Outside of working hours you will find Ollie on a golf course. Thankfully his Property Management skills are better than his golf. Ollie is also a big Formula 1 fan.
